The following obituary was originally printed in the New York Times on Septmber 25, 2001, and is reprinted here by permission.
Elwin Lepellier, '49 (1926 – 2001)
Elwin Lepellier, a Councilor Emeritus at Cantor-Fitzgerald, has been confirmed to be among the over two thousand victims of the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11. Although retired from the firm for five years, he was asked by the board of directors to confer on a matter concerning one of his former clients.
Mr. Lepellier was a proud graduate of the Devon School, where he showed interest in nature and winter athletics. After a brief stint in the Army, he went on to receive a BA from Brown University. Three years later, he received his JD from the Yale Law School.
He met Sadie Donaldson, and they wed in 1959.
In the early 1960s, he joined Cantor-Fitzgerald, where he would spend the rest of his career. He advised many clients on large volume equities trading for institutional investors.
When not in the office, he enjoyed reading biographies and histories by the fire of his home in Rye, New York. Every Winter he could be found with his family skiing at various resorts around the world. His personal favorites were Telluride, Colorado, and Zermatt in Switzerland. He enjoyed teaching his children how to ski and briefly taught skiing at the Killington Resort in Vermont.
Besides his family, the law, and skiing, Mr. Lepellier’s other passion was improving mental health treatment for as many people as possible. He was a volunteer board member for the Northeast chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness
Elwin Lepellier leaves behind a wife, Sadie Donaldson Lepellier, a son, Edward, and a daughter, Ellen. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to any of the groups and funds assisting survivors of the terrorist attacks on America.
