September 2026 News!
Yeah, I got a lot of news this week! Some bad, some good. We’ll get to how I’m feeling about all of it in a minute, but let’s get this week’s headlines out of the way:
I was laid off from my company, my last day will be October 7, 2026.
My story, “Dripping”, included in the most recent edition of Weird Fiction Quarterly, is out in the world!
I received word that another short story of mine has been accepted for publication by Weird Fiction Quarterly! (I guess they really like me!) More details about that when we get near publication time!
I had a good medical checkup this week. I’ve been dealing with weight and blood pressure issues, and both of those things are improving!
So, yeah. That’s a lot for one week!
So, how am I feeling about all of this?
Decidedly mixed.
I’m obviously very happy about how my writing is being received by folks in genre fiction. I’m not so happy about a company I have worked very hard for (and enjoyed working for) deciding that my non-fiction writing is unnecessary for their future efforts.
And I’m pleased that my dietary changes and exercise regimen is showing results.
Most of all, I’m very happy that my partner still loves me and is extremely supportive of my creative endeavors.
This is not the first time I have been laid off, and every time it happens, I always feel like I’ve let down myself and my partner. Obviously, this isn’t true, and I know that it isn’t true, but feelings are not to be ignored but learned from.
I’ve already begun to reach out to people whose wisdom and experience I value. I’ll tighten up my resume next week and then add my most recent work to my portfolio.
On the bright side: more time to write! And I’ve got plenty of stuff to keep me busy!
